To assist Camera Clubs to provide a positive environment in which to learn about photography and develop photographic skills through competition, presentations and social activity; provide co-ordination, and a basis for interaction, between Camera Clubs and promote the amateur photographic movement generally.
Topshot 2014, hosted by Castle Hill RSL Photography Club on Sunday 29 June, was very well attended.
A display of all prints entered was exhibited, and a presentation of the accepted and awarded digital
images was shown. The popular slideshow is now available as a CD for clubs to show their members;
Dean Martin from Udesign Tours introduced the guest speaker, photographer Zim Pham from the USA. Zim's fascinating illustrated talk on her career from art school student to professional photographer with New York City Photo Safari was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. She described her approach to photography and teaching and the following day held 2 free walking workshops in the City. A video of Zim Pham's talk will also be available by request.
At the award ceremony Mosman's Robyn Georges' "Minstrel Boy" won first place in Monochrome P.I. Her photograph also won the overall top image, gaining her the David Miller Perpetual Trophy and placing her as winner of the Udesign trip for 2 to the USA. An excited Robyn plans to travel with her daughter, Sue.
Photographers from Castle Hill & North's dominated, picking up 6 of the 8 first places. Castle Hill member Dianne English won two 1st places, Jason Pang won Colour P.I. and Adalbert Dromblikovic took out the Australian Land/Sea award. From North's, Kian Mak won two 1st Time awards and 1st place in Colour Prints and Michael Hing came 1st in Nature Prints.
Country clubs Ballina, Taree, Narromine and Orange all had members represented among the winners and new member club Snappers' Kate Tinson achieved 4 awards. A total of over 1,000 entries were received, with twice as many prints as digital images; only 48 entrants submitted prints this year. Download the catalogue here (PDF - 662KB)

It is being hosted by two Blue Mountain clubs at Springwood. Entries open on September 1, so start selecting your club's top entries soon. More details will appear shortly in f/stop.
